Tula Skincare Review: What’s Worth It and What’s Not
Iβm thrilled to write this Tula skincare review because itβs pretty relevant to my life right nowβI just went to a Tula beauty event a few weeks ago! I was invited to get my skin, hair, and makeup done with Tula products and have a little photoshootβTula is coming out with a few new makeup SKUs. We were also sent home with a ton of Tula skincare products to try.Β (In case you’re wondering, SKU stands for “stock keeping units,” which is an alphanumeric way of referring to certain beauty products.)
I feel like Iβm pretty new to the whole Tula skincare craze. I met the founder of Tula, Dr. Roshini Raj, many years ago while I worked at Family Circle magazine as an Assistant Beauty Editor. Even though I had been introduced to this brand before, I hadnβt really tried a ton of Tula skincare brand picks up until recently. Dr. Raj is a gastroenterologist, and she decided to start a skincare line with probiotics after learning about all the amazing benefits that probiotics have on the gut and skin microbiome.Β

Unlike other skincare products on the market, Tula focuses heavily on the benefits of probiotics. Over the years, more and more studies have been released touting the benefits of probiotics and probiotic extracts for the skin microbiome. Probiotics can help treat inflammatory skin issues like acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and more.Β
Below, Iβm sharing my honest review of Tula skincare products and letting you know whether they are worth the money or not. Please keep in mind that I was gifted these products for my work in beauty journalism. However, this review is not sponsored, and I am not being compensated by the brand.Β
Tula Skincare Review
The below is a Tula skincare review that includes a bunch of the skincare products that I have been sent for editorial consideration. You can expect to see reviews on products I like, as well as reviews on picks that I think you could probably do without. I will also be including reviews on a few of the makeup products that I received as well. I listed them from my favorites to my least favorites!
Tula Skincare The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser
Available at TULA Skincare ($34)
This Tula skincare review would be nothing without mentioning the Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser. This is probably one of my favorite products from the line. Plus, itβs Tula Skincareβs best-sellerβone is sold every 30 seconds! It does a great job of removing makeup and everything else on my skin at the end of the day, plus it smells really lovely, too. It doesnβt foam very much but still manages to remove everything off my skin. I love that it isnβt drying and leaves my face feeling hydrated after cleansing.Β
It is lightly scented, but isnβt so overpowering that it irritates my skin. It contains probiotics, prebiotics (the food for probiotics), turmeric root extract, white tea, carthamus tinctorius safflower seed oil, camelina sativa seed oil, and blueberry to boost your skinβs microbiome while simultaneously offering anti-inflammatory benefits. This formula also contains aqua/water/eau, cocamidopropyl betaine, tocopheryl acetate, caprylyl glycol, ascorbyl palmitate, butylphenyl methylpropional, and butylene glycol. All of these are safe to use on skin, but it should be noted that this product isnβt fully βorganicβ or βnatural.βΒ Β Β
Tula Skincare So Poreless Deep Exfoliating Blackhead Scrub
Available at TULA Skincare ($34)
I donβt think Iβve ever tried a scrub that is as thick as this one. I liked the texture, and I also liked how well it smoothed my skin after each use. It has a nice smell to it and is pretty easy to massage into the skin with water. I would say that it has a medium-level abrasion, meaning itβs not as abrasive as the St. Ives Apricot Scrub, but also isnβt so gentle that you canβt feel any type of scrubbing action.Β
Like most scrubs, I wouldnβt really use this as my sole cleansing agent. I like to use the Purifying Cleanser to wash off my makeup, and then use this scrub once or twice a week to smooth the texture of my skin after cleansing. I think you could probably use this as your morning cleanser a few times a week, but itβs not going to remove makeup that well and I wouldnβt rub this into your eyes.Β
Tula Skincare Rose Glow + Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm
Available at TULA Skincare ($38)
Iβll be honest and admit that I didnβt really understand this product at first. Itβs basically like a highlighter for your eyes. It comes in three different shades (including Rose Glow and Gold Glow, which I have, and Glow, which I donβt have). It contains some sort of very light glimmer to it. The formula makes your eyes look dewy and a bit more awake, thanks to the reflection of the light against the shimmery sheen.Β
The shimmer in the formula is extremely minimal, and Iβm not even sure that I should call it a shimmer. Itβs more of a pearlescent finish. I think this is a great product to apply in the morning when you wake up to make your face look more awake. I probably wouldnβt apply this at night as my eye cream, though. Itβs not very thick and doesnβt have the anti-aging benefits that I usually look for in a thick eye cream for night.
I would say that if you like eye products for day, this is worth the money. Also, you can easily use this as a highlighter on your cheekbones, nose, or on your brow bone, too. The formula is a bit cooling and has caffeine to tighten and firm the eye area.Β
Tula Skincare 24-7 Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream
Available at TULA Skincare ($58)
This is one of Tulaβs best-sellers. Itβs a lovely cream that has a pretty lightweight texture, but feels rich on the skin. Per the product name, you can use this both day and night. It doesnβt have any SPF in it, so you donβt need to worry about applying it before bed.
Unfortunately, I have some issues with this cream. First off, it has fragrance in it. My sensitive skin doesnβt tolerate fragrance very well. I wish more brands had fragrance-free options. Secondly, this has two pore-clogging ingredients, according to the Sofie Pavitt Ingredients Checker for acne-causing ingredients. That includes ethylhexyl palmitate and hydrogenated vegetable oil.
Sadly, I canβt see myself using this cream often. I think it will clog my pores and cause me to break out. However, if you donβt have sensitive skin and donβt suffer from acne, I think this would be a fantastic moisturizer for you. It feels heavenly on the skin and hydrates throughout the day. It also leaves a really nice glow to your face, which looks great under makeup.Β
Tula Skincare 24-7 Moisture Intense Ultra Hydrating Day & Night Cream
Available at TULA Skincare ($58)
This formula is the thicker version of the Tula Skincare 24-7 Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream. The texture of the formula reminds me a lot of the La Mer cream. Itβs really rich, really hydrating, and would be ideal for the wintertime.
Unfortunately, this is another cream that contains potentially pore-clogging ingredients, including ethylhexyl palmitate and hydrogenated vegetable oil. I probably wonβt use this cream frequently because of that.Β
Tula Skincare Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30
Available at TULA Skincare ($38)
Iβm on the fence about whether I like the Tula Skincare Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30 or not. I like the way that this formula feels on the skinβitβs a gel texture that soaks into the skin fast. The scent smells very sunscreen-y and some might find it a bit overpowering.
The reason I didnβt love this one was because I donβt think it did a great job of actually protecting my skin from the sun! I normally wear an SPF 30 on my face when I am out in the sun. But, I still got burned while wearing this pick. In the SPFβs defense, I was outside for hours at the beach when I tested this sunscreen. But I was still wearing a hat and under an umbrella. So perhaps that really contributed to my burn lol. But, I still got a burn while wearing this one. I probably should have reapplied. Whoops!Β
Tula Skincare Filter Primer Blurring & Moisturizing Primer
Available at TULA Skincare ($38)
This primer is meh for my skin. It comes in five shades, and I feel like the lightest shade is still a bit too dark for my skin tone. It does contain a potentially pore-clogging ingredient called ethylhexyl palmitate. I used this on my face and I feel like my makeup was pretty cakey by the end of the day. However, when I apply this to the back of my hand, I can visibly see a difference in how it blurs the look of my skin a little bit. It also offers a really nice, really subtle sheen to the skin, which some folks might love. However, because it has a pore-clogging ingredient in it, Iβm scared to use it regularly for fear that it will break me out. If you are not really prone to breakouts, I think this primer might be worth the investment.Β
Tula Skincare Radiant Skin Brightening Serum Concealer
Available at TULA Skincare ($32)
This concealer is pretty nice. I like the creamy formula of it, and I like that it spreads pretty easily onto skin. It comes in 20 shades and can be used on your under-eye area, on blemishes, or anywhere else you need a bit of extra coverage. I think this concealer pairs well with the Skin Tint. Because the Skin Tint is such a light layer of coverage, the concealer adds some extra coverage to areas that need a bit more. The brand claims that the formula has 16 hours of wear, but I donβt think it lasts that long. Beware that this formula also contains two potentially pore-clogging ingredients, including algae and polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate.
Tula Skincare Radiant Skin Brightening Serum Skin Tint SPF 30
Available at TULA Skincare ($42)
The Skin Tint is my least favorite product in this Tula skincare review. Iβm not in love with it. This formula applies pretty thick on the skin and kind of just sits on top of my face. Unfortunately, it contains two ingredients that are known to clog pores, including ethylhexyl palmitate and sorbitan oleate. I’m pretty sure it caused some breakouts on my skin after I wore it a few times. I donβt love the way it cakes after a dayβs wear, and itβs just not my cup of tea honestly. I think the shade that the brand gave me is too dark for my skin tone, too. On the flip side, I do like that this contains SPF 30 and is a nice light layer of tint for your skin.
Tula Products That Have Been Discontinued
I debated whether or not I should include discontinued products in this Tula Skincare review. Ultimately, I decided they earned their spot here for two reasons. First, they are best-sellers in their own right. Second, they’re available through second-hand sites like Poshmark and Ebay.
Tula Skincare Dew Your Thing Moisturizing Gel Cream
Okay, I liked this formula and I also love that itβs Sofie Pavitt-approved (I use her ingredient checker for acne-safe skincare religiously). But, I would not consider this a cream. The formula is very lightweight, and it feels more like a serum or a thick toner than a cream or lotion. I love that itβs oil-free and ideal for folks with oily, acne-prone, or sensitive skin.Β
I definitely feel like this option wonβt clog pores and wonβt lead to any breakouts, which is always a relief. However, I have relatively dry skin, and I donβt think this product adds enough moisture to my face if I used just this as my daily lotion. If you have dry skin, I would probably layer something on top of this. However, if you have oily or combination skin, this is a really great formula for you.
Tula Skincare Tri-Supreme Overnight Oil Concentrate
If you like facial oils, you are going to love this one from Tula. The formula features prebiotics and probiotics, peptides, and a bunch of other superstar ingredients to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, boost the skinβs moisture barrier, and improve the tone of your skin, too.
I have really sensitive, acne-prone skin. Because of this, I have been scared of using oils for many years (check out some of the best skincare for dry, acne-prone skin). I tried this overnight oil concentrate for a night and woke up with one pimple on my chin. However, I believe it was a pimple that had already been making its way to the surface, so I canβt blame the oil on that.Β
According to Sofie Pavittβs ingredient checker, this oil is safe to use on acne-prone and sensitive skin. It felt wonderful on my face when I applied it, but I wouldnβt say that it absorbed fully into my skin. It still left an oily sheen on my face when I went to bed, which I guess is expected for a face oil.
I ended up not applying any moisturizer on top of this oil because I think it would have been too many products and too much greasiness on my face. All thatβs to say, if you like face oils and are looking for a hydrating pick that also does double-duty in anti-aging, this is a great option for you.Β
Tula Skincare Lip SOS Lip Treatment Balm
This is a lovely lip treatment that comes in three colors. It has a pretty thick consistency and feels like a thick gloss on the lips. It contains hyaluronic acid, lip peptides, and probiotics and prebiotics to keep lips smooth, hydrated, and plump.
The shades are really nice, and I feel like, because the balm is so thick, it lasts longer than other lip products. That being said, it is on the pricier side at $18 per balm. And resellers can mark it up to $28 per tube. Personally, I probably wouldnβt spend more than $10 on a lip balm, but if you are always reaching for your lip gloss, I would consider this purchase.
Tula Skincare Claydate Detoxing & Toning Face Mask Stick
When I was testing for this Tula Skincare review, I honestly wasnβt expecting much from this mask stick. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried it. First of all, this smells really good. It does have added fragrance parfum in it, so if you are super sensitive to fragrance or perfume, I would probably opt for another clay mask that is fragrance-free. The scent in this product isnβt overpowering, though.
What I really loved about it was how easy it was to apply. When I apply a clay mask to my face, I normally have to use my fingers and try to spread it throughout my skin. This stick was so, so easy to just glide across my face, and the clay mask came off the stick really easily. It made the whole process really easy, really simple, and completely mess-free, too.Β
Iβve only used it a few times, so I canβt say that itβs made a huge difference in my skin, but I donβt normally reach for clay masks anyway. I have pretty dry skin, so I usually opt for a more hydrating face mask, rather than detoxifying or purifying. If you use clay face masks often, I would definitely recommend trying out this one. It was super easy to use.Β

According to the brand, they do not use live cultures in any of its products. “
Tula Skincare Routine
I put together a skincare routine based on my Tula Skincare review, and I made it friendly for beginners.
Morning routine:
Step 1 – Tula Skincare The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser
Cleanse your face first thing in the morning. I recommend using this cleanser or using the blackhead scrub, depending on your needs for that morning. Do not use the scrub every day, though.
Step 2 – Tula Skincare Rose Glow + Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm
Apply the balm around your eye area after you’ve cleansed your face.
Step 3 – Tula Skincare Dew Your Thing Moisturizing Gel Cream
If your skin is feeling more on the oily side, you can apply this gel cream as your moisturizer for the day. If you feel like your skin needs some extra hydration, you can apply this cream as if itβs a serum.
Step 4 – Tula Skincare 24-7 Moisture Hydrating Day & Night Cream
Apply this cream on top of the gel cream if you need some extra moisture that day.
Step 5 – Tula Skincare Protect + Glow Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30
Apply this sunscreen for protection against UVA/UVB damage.
Step 6 – Tula Skincare Filter Primer Blurring & Moisturizing Primer
If you are planning on wearing makeup that day, apply this primer as your base.
Step 7 – Tula Radiant Skin Brightening Serum Skin Tint SPF 30
Add the skin tint on top of the primer and let it soak into the skin before applying other makeup products on top.
Step 8 – Tula Skincare Radiant Skin Brightening Serum Concealer
Use the concealer to touch up any spots that need some extra coverage.
Step 9 – Tula Skincare Lip SOS Lip Treatment Balm
Add the treatment balm to your lips to add color to the face.
Nighttime routine:
Step 1 – Tula Skincare The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser
Cleanse the day away using the face cleanser.
Step 2 – Tula Skincare So Poreless Deep Exfoliating Blackhead Scrub
Use this scrub a few times a week to gently exfoliate skin and lift away dead skin cells.
Step 3 – Tula Skincare Claydate Detoxing & Toning Face Mask Stick
Use this mask stick a few times a week to detoxify your skin and clear out your pores.
Step 4 – Tula Skincare Tri-Supreme Overnight Oil Concentrate
After youβve cleansed, apply this oil concentrate to your face and neck area.
Step 5 – Tula Skincare 24-7 Moisture Intense Ultra Hydrating Day & Night Cream
Finally, finish everything off with the intense night cream.
Is Tula Skincare Worth it?
Some of the Tula Skincare products are worth it, and others are not. I really love the cleanser, the scrub, the clay mask stick, the eye balms, the day & night creams (if you donβt have acne or sensitive skin), the gel cream, and maybe the primer (if you donβt have acne or sensitive skin). I could probably do without the other products that I tested and wrote about.
However, some of the products that I didnβt like were only because I have very sensitive, acne-prone skin, and those products irritated my face. I tried to indicate that in each review. If you are someone who doesnβt have acne-prone, sensitive skin, I think most of the Tula Skincare products are worth the price. Based on the consistency, formulation, ingredients used, and the way they feel on the skin, I can tell that these are high-quality products that use clean ingredients and deserve the higher price tag that they have.Β
