10 Casual Spring Outfit Ideas, From Dresses to Cargo Pants
One of my favorite things about warmer weather is the fabulous spring fashion. We hang up our peacoats (or light jackets if youβre a fellow Angeleno) and bring out sun dresses, skirts, and crop tops. I find that springtime is a perfect opportunity to experiment with different outfits and trends. Below, I share some of my favorite casual spring outfit ideas.
As a heads up, I donβt typically go with florals for spring. As Miranda Priestly would sarcastically say, βGroundbreaking.β I often opt for bright colorsβlike bold orange, lime green, and hot pinkβso that I can stand out from the crowd.Β
Additionally, the warmer and more relaxed days call for more time spent outdoors. For this reason, I also like to have a cute athleisure moment. Matching sets are some of my favorites, but I also appreciate a good tennis dress.
Now, without further ado, letβs get into the 10 casual spring outfit ideas I have for yβall.
10 Casual Spring Outfit Ideas

White Dresses
A white dress makes the perfect spring outfit. I recently wore a short-sleeved white dress while on a boat ride in Cabo. (And I got tons of compliments on it, thank you very much!) The hem went halfway down my thigh and the garment had pockets. This means it was as cute as it was functional. And if youβre wondering what shoes to wear with a white dress, rest assured you have many options. I wore caramel sandals, but the dress wouldβve matched with white sneakers or heels of any color.

Button-Up Shirt and Jeans
This combo is one of my favorite spring outfits because itβs so effortless but youβre still able to dress it up or down. Whatβs more is that this outfit will seamlessly go from a day at the office to a night out for dinner. You can wear a long-sleeve button-up or a short-sleeve button-up. The top can be any color or patternβbut Iβd recommend a solid, earthly color or a vertical striped pattern. As far as jeans, I canβt tell you how to live your life. I still wear skinny jeans (Gen Z be damned!), but a flared jean and a straight leg jean would also be good options.

Pleated Dresses
I canβt really explain it, but thereβs something about a pleated dress that screams spring to me. I have a short, green, spaghetti-strapped dress that I wore to my cousinβs May wedding in 2023. Itβs pleated in the front and gives me a great shape. I got so many compliments on that dress. My roommate even said that itβs the βperfect spring wedding dress.β While that piece isnβt exactly casual, pleats are. Just make sure youβre dressing them down with lowkey accessories and sneakers.

Athleisure Sets
If I could live in athleisure sets, I wouldβand I actually kind of do. I have at least a dozen matching sets from Alo, Hoka, Nike, and Beyond Yoga, and I love wearing them during casual outings. Letβs say my friend and I want to go for a hike then grab lunch. Matching athleisure sets are my go-to. Theyβre simple, quick, and stylish. Believe it or not, I also get a lot of compliments when I sport the peach Alo look from above.

Maxi Dresses
A maxi dress is a staple of any well-rounded closet. Theyβre so easy to dress up or down, but even at their most casual, they still make you lookβand feel!βlike a style icon. A classic option is a sleek, black, spaghetti strap dress. Extra points if it has a slit! I have one of these myself and have worn it on so many different occasions.
For example, I first wore it to my sisterβs birthday dinner. I styled it with a fitted jean jacket, white sneakers, and a small lime green purse. I also wore it to my post-marathon dinner, still with my white sneakers but this time I forewent the bag. The most recent time I wore it was on a flight from Cabo to Los Angeles. I loved it so much that I made a sweeping declaration to only wear maxi dresses on fair-weather flights.

Crop Top and Cargo Pants
Another fab option as far as casual spring outfits go? The combo of a crop top and cargo pants. Though I can already hear Miranda Priestly criticizing the floral top, I think it works really well for spring. After all, thatβs the season when the flowers bloom. Here, the model wears her outfit with cream, pointy heelsβand that elevates the look. However, you can also dress it down by throwing on some sneakers. Or you can wear a classic white crop top with green cargo pants to go ultra casual.

Striped T-Shirt and Shorts
There are some things that never go out of style: a diamond necklace, Essieβs Ballet Slipper nail polish, and striped shirts paired with denim shorts. I love wearing a striped T-shirt (my current default is a white, red, and blue striped shirt from H&M) with distressed denim shorts. Itβs very Party in the USA. That particular outfit isnβt one Iβd wear out to dinner, though. For that, Iβd go with something more similar to what the model is wearing above. Sheβs still rocking a striped shirt, but the shorts are linenβwhich bumps this look up in class.

Tori Dresses
I have to admit that Iβve never worn a tori dress myself. That said, I ran into the garment in my search for the best casual spring outfits. After taking one look, I fell in love. In case youβre also unfamiliar with tori dresses, theyβre basically shirt-dresses. They can be short-sleeved or long-sleeved, but they usually have a collar and some buttonsβwhich give them a preppy vibe.

Trench Coat With Jeans and Sneakers
It doesnβt get any more casual than a hat, a T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Itβs a tried-and-true outfit thatβs sure to stand the test of time. Plus, if itβs randomly cold on a given spring day, youβll be able to keep warm with your coat. The only downside of this outfit is that it may get unexpectedly hot and youβll be stuck lugging around a trench coat. But this wouldnβt be a huge deal if youβre spending most of the day indoors.

Color-Blocked Dresses
For a fashion story, I recently talked to stylists about what trends they think are coming up for spring. The common denominator was color-blocking. They suggested pairing an orange blazer with a purple top and a purple skirt. In this sense, youβre using colors to complement each other and add dimension to your outfit. However, this can be hard if you donβt love finding complementary colors. In this case, youβre better off wearing something already pre-color-blockedβlike the garment shown above.

These spring outfit ideas are so fresh and wearable! Love how you mix comfort with style β totally inspired me to refresh my capsule with lighter layers.
